If Instagram is a filtered place for our "best," not-so-authentic selves, Confide is the platform for sharing our messy realities. In the ever-growing sea of apps centered around networked individuals, Confide challenges mainstream social media networks in offering a true virtual community in which users can share personal experiences and build personal relationships. On Confide, you can join conversations and groups, make new friends and support others in your situation, be inspired by motivational posts, and be a meaningful part of a community that promotes positivity.

Though there exist apps for digital support groups today, Confide is a Web 2.0 user-centered social networking community that connects ordinary people through a multitude of topics and identities. In my design of the app, I followed Nancy Baym’s foundation of defining what a community is in “Communities and Networks,” centered around shared resources and emotional/physical/informational support. Unlike current social medias of networked individuals like Instagram and Twitter, Confide is an app that creates a real sense of community in a virtual space, allowing people to explore identities and connect with others based on shared experiences.
