ABOUT
I'm Kendra Raczek, a UX designer at Amazon based in Phoenix, Arizona. I've always used graphic and web design to express my creativity in the digital space, and now use that passion to improve the lives of everyday people's digital experiences.

I blended my two passions of technology and design in my undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where I received a B.A. in computer science, minoring in both graphic design and digital studies.

I began my career at the Gender & Sexuality Campus Center of UW-Madison as the Graphic Design and Outreach intern, where I designed marketing assets and managed all social media channels. I then dived into a more technical role at WPS Health Solutions where I served as the Web Development & UX intern, developing front-end interfaces of health insurance portals while auditing Section 508 accessibility compliance.

As the first UX designer in the Worldwide Operations Security organization at Amazon, I rapidly grew in a wide breadth of skills, serving as the jack-of-all trades expertise on user experience research, design, and accessibility. After 5 years, alongside a UX team that has grown to six, I've expanded and refined my skillset through my work in high-impact life-safety products. I've served as the UX lead for over 27 projects across the areas of loss prevention, physical security, and emergency response, supporting scale of the world's largest operations and fulfillment network.
VALUES
Representation
I perform my UX work through the framework of universal design, ensuring that my research amplifies marginalized voices and brings in diverse perspectives that inform my design choices. Every click of my mouse has the weight of the vast and diverse user base behind it, and I take that responsibility very seriously.
Mathematics
Within my wireframes and prototypes, I employ a mathematical precision informed by my computer science education. Each stroke is pixel-perfect, and the sizing and placement of each component is intentional, framed by consistent scaling and responsive column layouts. My design decisions are never arbitrary, and always informed by data.
Writing
I am an expert in UX writing and grammar with a focus on creating translatable strings that are understandable to an everyday person, and I have experience writing comprehensive user research documentation. Behind every intuitive interface I create is a designer who sweated over every word.
Empathy
Digital products are just a small blip in the lives of their users - every user brings a unique life experience to their interaction with the product. I am dedicated to understanding their individual experiences on a human level, including their stresses, aspirations, contexts, and environments. Even if it's only a blip, I can contribute to the overall wellbeing of each user amid the stress of daily life.
